All About Us
My name is Stacey aka the T1D Mama. I am a wife, mother, step-mother, part time 911 dispatcher, & PANCREAS! Diabetes has forever changed my life - & not all in a bad way! I work to advocate & educate about type 1 diabetes, as well as have made some new friends along the journey. I have begun a local play group for type 1's under 5 so that my daughter is not alone among friends.
Isabella "Izzy" is my independent, often stubborn, 2 year old. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 18 months old. Although she does not understand what is going on with her tiny little body, she handles it with so much strength & bravery, she is truly my hero. In all of her spare time she loves pretending, singing, dancing, & following her big sisters around.
This is my husband, Jeff. He is a wonderfully supportive, often pain in the butt man who is also in law enforcement. He makes me laugh daily with his antics. He is & always will be my best friend. We are a team, working together to ensure the health of our daughter. We alternate blood sugar checks & count carbs together. Without him, let's face it, I'd be even more of a hot mess mama. (Shhh... don't tell him I said that!)
I also have 2 stepdaughters, Kaylee (9) & Keira (10). Kaylee is our softball super star, while Keira prefers singing & may have a tad bit of the acting bug in her. They live with my hubby & I full time, & I wouldn't have it any other way - even if testing my patience is like a fun game to them.
Izzy is the entire reason I began blogging again & now run the Facebook page The Life of a T1D Mama. Writing is like therapy, a release to reach out for support & offer up the truth about the trials & tribulations of type 1 diabetes, motherhood, & police wife life. My blog may be a mish mash of things, but I love it, & it pretty much reflects my life in a nutshell.
